Can someone please explain why my Quicktime isn't working? Anyone with prophetic awareness of my little Atlas, none so old but recently behaving so?

  1. Have you tried un-installing it and re-installing it?

  3. hhmmm. then i had no idea. that is VERY strange. is it not loading at all? will it open but not play a video? what exactly will it do and/or NOT do?

  4. Oh, it will open. But let's just say I go to a website and one of the ads that runs on the side of their screen uses a quicktime video. The blue Q will pop up like it's trying to load and just taking a while, and then it will stop and there will be a white question mark over the Q signifying that it cannot load because of some kind of error. It also happens on YouTube, and of course, on apple.com/trailers. So as you can imagine, this is a serious problem.

  5. uh...ok, so it works on some videos and doesn't work on others. for example, some of the trailers on apple.com will play and some of them won't. i can find no reasonable connection between the ones that will and the one's that won't, so i don't know if this is helpful.

  6. Yes, this is VERY important! You must be able to get to your YouTube videos and movie trailers!!!
I have NO idea why it will work on some and not on others. Sometimes when things take "too long" to load they "time out" - perhaps this is what is happening? Perhaps on longer/larger videos this could be happening?
I asked Chris. He has no idea. But he didnt think for very long or very hard...

  7. Tell him to think longer and harder. It has only been happening in the last month. You would be amazed how many online thingys use Quicktime without advertising the fact.

  8. Oh, I believe you!
I'm afraid it's probably a weird, quirk/twitch/tourette-type symptom that probably can't be solved.
but we will think. and keep thinking...

because you were all wondering what I'm writing my dissertation on, here's a brief synopsis of my 'research context': When James Macpherson published his Fragments of Ancient Poetry in 1760, he went to great lengths to make the Fragments appear to be authentic remains of an ancient, heroic oral tradition. His reasons for this were largely political, and as such, influenced the content of the epics themselves. As an attempt to establish a particularly Scottish identity, the poems were quite effective. However, to do so required both a simplification and a manipulation of traditional mythology. Stripped of anagogical significance, the Ossian epics more or less represented an Enlightenment version of history, tradition, and mythic heritage. The stories themselves were changed by their very purpose and in turn changed the manner of representing myth in future narratives. Moreover, the emphasis on the Ossian epics as authentic tales from the past, as ‘fragments,’ served
Kathryn, do NOT be jealous of me going to the opera. It was weird. They were wearing these bulky animal costumes and clonking boots which might have been okay except that their footsteps drowned out the sound of the orchestra (Oh look! A band!). The plot was supposed to be about the circle of life or something deep, but it really seemed to be more about animals getting it on. It was an opera, though, so plot really shouldn't matter as long as the music is good. It wasn't. I mean, it wasn't BAD - but most of the singing was monotonous, the orchestration was unremarkable, and I hope to heaven no one from the production reads this. It would be so disheartening! They were all skillful - I just wasn't interested in the piece itself. But then, I have only ever seen very classical sorts of pieces. The Marriage of Figaro. Samson and Delilah. And I was listening to Puccini before leaving the house! What do you do? But then again, I was distracted by my seating companion. Five so
